The School of Italian of the Dante Alighieri Society employs only speakers of Italian who possess a Western Australian or equivalent teaching qualification and have relevant experience.
Italian classes of the Dante Alighieri Society are conducted in a professional manner, in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere without compromising on standards.
Enrolments
Please download the enrolment form and complete. Enrolment must be finalised before classes commence. Please check with the office for the relevant dates.
Class Sizes
Beginners Classes
a. A new Beginners Class must have a minimum of 10 students enrolled before if can be established.
b. Classes can be between 10 and 20 students in number.
c. A class where there are more than 20 students enrolled will be split into two, if possible.
d. A class whose numbers drop below 8 will be closed or amalgamated. In exceptional circumstances a class will be allowed to drop down to 6 before it is closed.
All Other Levels
Classes which drop below a minimum of 6 students will be closed.
Italian Courses Outline
Beginners Course
This course is designed for students who have little or no previous knowledge of the Italian language. If you did some Italian in school or speak Italian or dialect at home but have never formally learnt Italian, then this course will give you the basics you need. The Beginners Course is also for those who may have lived for a short time in Italy or who did a little Italian some years ago. The emphasis of this course is the study of the basic grammatical structures of the language and oral work. Some aspects of Italian culture are also studied.
Intermediate Course
This course is designed to extend the knowledge of the Italian language. It is for those students who have completed a year in the Beginners Course or who completed Year 12 Italian at school. The emphasis of this course will be placed on further development of the grammatical structure of the language as well as extending oral proficiency. Aspects of Italian culture are studied.
Advanced Course
This course is designed to further extend the existing knowledge of the Italian language. It is a course for those who have completed the Intermediate Course and wish to become more proficient in the written and spoken language. The emphasis will be placed on the analysis and understanding of Italian written works. Guided workshops will extend the oral and written skills of the Italian language. The study of some aspects of Italian literature will be introduced.
Flucency Course
This course is designed for students who are fluent in the Italian language. The emphasis is placed on the analysis and understanding of Italian written works. Guided workshops consolidate the oral and written knowledge of the Italian language. Some grammar references are considered.
